Camila Rueda Torres of Greenville Technical Charter High School (GTCHS) was awarded a recycling grant of approximately $300 by the S.C. Dept. of Health & Environmental Control this month.
Greenville County Schools students are raising money to honor Korean War veterans from Greenville and across the state. The fundraising goal is $200,000. The amount is enough to have the names of all South Carolina KIAs and MIAs etched on the Korean War Wall of Remembrance in Washington, D.C.

Free scholarship workshop offered
The Urban League of the Upstate in partnership with the Littlejohn Community Center will be hosting a free scholarship workshop on Saturday, Nov. 4, at The University Center in Greenville.
Giving Thanks art show seeking submissions
Students are invited to enter the annual Giving Thanks student art show Oct. 23-30.
This year’s theme is “What Can I Give To Others” or “What Have I Given To Others.”
The contest is free to enter and open to all elementary, middle, high school and college students.
Eastside graduate Joe Erwin is among Greenville County Schools’ second class of Hall of Fame inductees.
Erwin is a 1975 graduate of Eastside High and a 1979 graduate of Clemson University.
RHS debate team takes top awards
The Riverside High Speech and Debate team won all three top team awards at the Viking Classic Tournament held at North Mecklenberg High in North Carolina recently.
Blue Ridge High Corps of Cadets marching band won class 3A division at Blythewood Tournament of Bands on Saturday, Oct. 14. The band also received first place in visual performance, first place in music and first place for color guards. The Corps of Cadets will compete at Upper State next Saturday in Gaffney.
Chase Tomberlin, a senior music major from Greer, has more going on in his life than just going to class and studying. He has a part-time job, but not just any part-time job. He travels two times a week, maybe more, to Charlotte, N.C.
