After hosting 8,000 people last season for its inaugural Upick event, Southern Hills Lavender  in Greer has announced Upick 2017 to be held over six weeks, from May 12 through June 17.

Visitors can register for a day of Upick to cut their own lavender bundle and pick from 11 cultivars of lavender–even pink lavender.

Fresh lavender bundles can be dried and used for decorating, crafting, and even eating.

The 2017 Upick season also includes classes, events, bookings, fundraising for Greer Relief, food trucks, activities and a new Farm Shop.

“We are very excited to continue sharing lavender with our community and we hope every attendee has their own moment in the field,” said Mary Bergstrom, co-owner of Southern Hills Lavender.

Classes include crafting with lavender and eating lavender, among others.  A Mommy and Me crafting class allows visitors to create make and take lavender crafts.

Artists are invited to a Plein Air Day where they can have their artwork entered into a contest for the 2018 Upick season.

“If you are a photographer, you can book time outside of the Upick hours to have the field all to yourself–offer a mini session or take photos for your portfolio,” said Bergstrom. “Garden Clubs, students or any group can book a tour of the farm and learn about lavender.”

Southern Hills Lavender is once again collecting donations for Greer Relief and Resource Agency during its Upick season, challenging visitors to exceed the donations received last year. Each week, the farm will tally items donated and if last year’s amount is passed, the business will double their monetary donation.

Along with its own products, Southern Hills Lavender is partnering with local artisans and makers to sell their lavender-related products in the new Farm Shop, showcasing the versatility of lavender and the talent in the community.

Registration for Upick (Fridays and Saturdays) is $4 per person, age 7 and under is free. Costs for classes and bookings vary by activity and are listed on the farm’s website.

Southern Hills Lavender was established in 2014, plants were planted in 2015, and its first UPick was held in 2016. The farm is located at 2132 Edwards Lake Road in Greer.

Southern Hills Lavender is also open by registration, booking or appointment during the season. For more information, visit southernhillslavender.com.
