A creek, a maple tree, and a two-horse wagon may not seem important, but the members of Maple Creek Missionary Baptist Church have another story to tell. These were the three main components to the founding of their church back in 1887.
Ella Jane Nesbitt made her mark on Greer.
The longtime owner of Nesbitt’s Beauty Shop was the first African American to operate a business of this nature in Greer. The store opened in 1947 and continued on until Nesbitt’s retirement in 2011, when she was 90 years old.
