Astra/CFX, BMW partner Production starts at Greer facility
The tires came in as just that - tires, and nothing else.
A gantry style robot then picked up the fledgling Bridgestones, Goodyears, or Pirellis and sent them winding their way along the automated assembly line.
By the time a second gantry robot grabbed the tires from the line and returned them to the warehouse floor, those tires had been securely attached to hubs, inflated to the correct air pressure and made to match the exact specifications BMW requires for installation on the new line of X3 activity vehicles due to begin production this fall.
Such was the sight at 154 Metro Court in Greer Monday afternoon, where Plantation, Fla.-based Astra/CFX Logistics celebrated the launch of its new tire and wheel assembly plant with a dedication luncheon and facility tour.
