Community cleanup
When: Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - noon
Community leaders invite volunteers to prepare for the cleanup by picking up debris in area yards.
Anyone interested can show up at the entrance to the old mill parking lot on Victor Avenue, where bins will be located for the free disposal of brush, leaves and other trash.
The H. Mitchell Group and Spartanburg County held a community meeting at Greer City Hall on Tuesday night where they announced further details about the Victor Mill cleanup project scheduled to begin next Monday.
HEPACO, Inc., the Charlotte-based environmental contracting firm hired to remove the debris and contaminated soils that rest on the former mill site, plans to get the job done using a three-phase remediation process over a 150-day span. James Kessler, a project manager with HEPACO, gave the gathering of roughly 75 community members a slightly clearer picture of how the work will take shape.
