| Presleys' 'Ride to Remember' Though only one person will actually do the riding, the whole Presley family from Greer will be involved in the July "Ride to Remember" to raise money for the South Carolina chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
The 260-mile ride starts in Simpsonville July 16 and ends in Mt. Pleasant. Greer's Ken Presley will ride the 80 miles per day starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending, hopefully, by about 2:30 p.m.
"It gives you time to get cleaned up and nap a little," Ken said.
Last year in the inaugural ride, 22 cyclists participated. This year, the event hopes to have 50 for the three days that take them from Simpsonville to Newberry, Newberry to Orangeburg, and Orangeburg to Mt. Pleasant.
Cyclists book motel rooms each night.
Ken's wife Valerie, an occupational and massage therapist will provide support to the cyclists with her massages and by applying kinesio tape.
Daughter Emily, 13, will serve as the public relations director for the family. She will take photos, interview cyclists and put the information on social networking sites.
Emily has also created flyers for all the fundraising events. Jared, 11, will work on the refreshment committee, setting up and breaking down water and aid stations for cyclists along the route.
"We'll speed ahead and set it up before they get there," Valerie said.
