toy with hot sales Glenn, 9, produces overnight sensation
Josh Overstreet For The Greer Citizen
Lexi Glenn, a nine-year old, was at her wits with the difficulty of filling up water balloons with a sink or a hose. So she invented the Pumponator.
The frustration came with the water either blowing the balloon off the spout or the water tearing holes in the balloon.
Glenn, a 4th grader at Bethel Elementary at the time, decided to look for an alternate method of filling up the balloons and the original idea for the Pumponator Balloon Pumping Station was born when she found a garden sprayer in her garage.
It took six months for a prototype to be made said to Donna Ramere, Lexi's grandmother.
"She was really pushy about getting it done," said Ramere.
The product was unveiled at February's New York International Toy Fair. Lexi's toy was among over 100,000 products on display, 7,000 of which had never been seen before. It's the single largest toy industry event in the Western Hemisphere, bringing together toy industry professionals to celebrate "play."
Since that time the Pumponator has gone from 0 to 65,000 production, and is being sold locally and globally. Orders have been placed from as far away as Kuwait.
