Robert L. Brumbaugh (veteran) Oct. 20, 1923 – July 5, 2010 Robert Laird Brumbaugh, 86, of Greer, passed away at July 5, 2010, at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Nu Mine, Armstrong County, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Elmer and Martha Jane (Hennigan) Brumbaugh.
He was united in marriage January 23, 1942, to Elizabeth May Bollinger, in Grove City, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years and the following children, Carole Lynne Eshenbaugh, and her husband, Robert G., of Greer; Sandra Kay Renick, and her husband, Donald R., of Shelby, N.C.; and Robert Scott Brumbaugh, and his wife, Juanita, of Hughes Springs, Texas.
He is survived by six grandchildren, Douglas Eshenbaugh of Fayetteville, N.C.; Mark Eshenbaugh and wife, Alexandra, of Greer; Rebecca Berdar and husband, Tim Busko, of Huntingdon, Pa.; Elke Brumbaugh and husband, Sidy Ndao, of Buena Vista, Ga.; David Eshenbaugh, and wife, Jill, of Mauldin; and Bridgett Gretchen Brumbaugh of San Antonio, Texas.
The following great-grandchildren survive, Talia, Olivia and Charlotte Eshenbaugh of Greer, and Riley Clemens-Cox and Aiden Eshenbaugh of Mauldin.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. A step-granddaughter, Wendy Beal, preceded him in death in 1991.
Mr. Brumbaugh was a member of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, Pa., for over 50 years.
He was a 50-year member of F&AM Lodge 603 in Grove City, and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Valley of New Castle (Pa.) Consistory.
He was reared in Pennsylvania and attended school in Mercer, Pa.
During World War II, Mr. Brumbaugh served with the United States Navy Reserve as a yeoman in the European Theater of Operations.
Mr. Brumbaugh was employed by the W.M. Bashlin Equipment Co., Grove City, for 27 years. In 1985, he retired from GTE Southwest, Bryan, Texas, after 10 years of service. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to the Greenville area, eventually settling in Greer.
An avid golfer, Mr. Brumbaugh achieved a hole in one on April 8, 1990, at Donaldson Country Club, Greenville. Tending to his yard and flowerbeds was also among his favorite pastimes.
"Bob" especially enjoyed the company of his family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday at The Wood Mortuary.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary.
