City picks Flowers
Replacing Chris Harvey upon his retirement, Greer’s new Fire Chief, Dorian Flowers, brings 23 years of fire service experience with him.
Flowers holds a Master of Public Administration degree concertinaing in fire service administration, a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and an associates degree in applied science in fire science technology. He is also a certified EMT basic and fire inspector I, holds certifications for fire instructor, fire officer, firefighter, haz-mat technician, technical rescuer, vehicle machinery rescue, surface water rescue, structural collapse, trench, confined spaces and ropes. In addition, Flowers has specialized training in ESRI ArcGIS Mapping and CPSE Data Analysis.
Prior to being selected to serve as Greer’s new fire chief, Flowers, who was one of 75 applicants for the position, was a member of the Hendersonville, Ogden, Wilmington and New Hanover County fire departments in North Carolina, serving as a firefighter for seven years, a fire captain for 13 years and fire chief for three years.
“Greer is on a path for continued growth and Greer has much to offer its residents, visitors and employees,” Flowers said in a statement. “Greer has a very dedicated fire department that is ready for the challenges associated with change.
“I plan to bring an opportunity for the staff to work collaboratively with the Fire Chief and help develop the direction of the department,” he said.
Flowers’ tenure with the city begins Monday, April 27. Harvey departs from the department, entering retirement, on May 1.
