Andrea Jones has been putting an emphasis on the arts at Kidcreate Studio in Greer for nearly a year now.

The business, designed to provide a creativity outlet for children ages 18-months to 12-years-old, has been in operation at 2456 Hudson Road since Oct. 6, 2018.

“We do birthday parties and summer camps. We also do workshops, date nights and weekly classes,” Jones said. “We have a lot of fun and make a lot of messes. It’s a great time for the kids.”

Projects at Kidcreate range from painting to the creation of clay sculptures. They take about an hour to complete and expose participants to a wide variety of techniques.

“We have a lot of variety in the projects we offer, giving the kids a chance to experiment with different art techniques,” Jones said. “It’s a great way for kids to explore. Being creative helps you think outside the box, and that’s our goal here.

Lara Olson started Kidcreate 12 years ago, but Jones got involved after a long stint as a stay-at-home parent.

“I was a stay-at-home mom for the last 15 years,” she said. “I know that kids are always looking to do something fun, but because they’re attached to their electronics, they don’t always explore the arts. I just thought, as a mom, what better way to add some value to the community than to work with Kidcreate.”

Kidcreate will be hosting an anniversary celebration on Oct. 5 from 9-11 a.m. at the studio. The event is open to the public.
