Twenty-four years ago, Greenville County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rudolph Gordon took a chance, installing a young female teacher in the role of principal at Skyland Elementary School.

“I didn’t think I had a chance,” Dr. Carolyn Styles recalls. “I kept getting shocked that I made it to the next level.”
