New River to hold

Former Greer band director, Jeffrey Leo Norman, died on December 17.
Originally born in Louisiana, he began his teaching career in South Carolina at Ninety-Six High School and spent 17 years at Wren Middle/Wren High School in Piedmont. He then spent 15 years at Greer High School, where he retired in 2022.
The Wellford Police Department (WPD) wrapped up 2023 with a December police report, calculating their year-to-date incidents and monthly reports.
CRIME IN 2023
In the month of December 2023, WPD gave 83 traffic and criminal citations, 86 traffic warnings, reported 16 traffic collisions, and made 7 arrests.
The Empanada Shack food truck in Greer was stolen last week and totaled in an accident in Lagrange, Georgia along I-85.
The owner, Julio Vidal, noticed his food truck was stolen when he drove up to the location of The Empanada Shack, at 701 S. Buncombe Road, on December 23.
On Tuesday, December 26, around 8 p.m., the Duncan Fire Department responded to a structure fire near E. Main Street in Duncan.
The incident occurred near E. Main St. and W. Pine St., where someone reported the fire.
A shooting in a Duncan Dollar General sent one person to the hospital last week with non-life-threatening injuries.
Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Dollar General, located at 2094 E. Main St. in Duncan, in regard to a shooting on Wednesday, December 27.
The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce recently shared with the community that their president has announced his retirement from the Chamber.
On December 20, the Chamber Board of Directors received the resignation from Chamber President David Merhib.
After two months in business, the Greer Opry House is closing its doors once again.
The building was most recently known as The Spinning Jenny, but on November 4, the structure returned to its roots as the Greer Opry House, located at 107 Cannon St.
