The City of Greer is accepting bids for the construction of a downtown parking garage.

The garage, which will be located on Jason Street, will sit beside a new Hampton Inn that is slated for a 2020 completion.

“That project is out to bid,” said City Administrator Ed Driggers. “We have now advertised that project.”

Relay for Life needs volunteers

District Five Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary is hoping to put the focus on workforce training for local high school students.

Gary, who has only been on the job a few months in District Five shared his vision with a group of public officials and business owners recently.

It’s Constitution Week in the City of Greer.

Mayor Rick Danner issued a proclamation last week, setting aside Sept. 17-23 for the occassion.

“This is something that we celebrate regularly here,” Danner said.

Mayor Danner presented the proclamation to the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Naomi Brown gets her face painted during a community celebration Saturday for customers at the BI-LO store located at 1365 West Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer. BI-LO also gave $500 to the Greer Fire Department and $500 to the Greer Police Department.

Local students gathered around the flag at Byrnes High School last Wednesday to remember the lives lost in terrorist attacks that took place 18 years ago.

Carolina Barrel and Blade celebrated the grand opening of its new location last Saturday with the giveaway of a Mossberg MC1 9mm pistol and hotdogs at 14322 E. Wade Hampton Blvd in Greer.

Performances by Noah Guthrie, Jared Emerson and Emile Pandolfi will headline the ticketed “Spotlight on the Arts Gala” next Friday.

“I’m excited about having such famous artists come into Greer and perform,” said Robin Byouk, Cultural Arts Supervisor. “It’s a very unique opportunity.”
