Greer Mayor Rick Danner recently signed a proclamation recognizing Young Miss Greer Taylor Singleton’s community service efforts, expressing the city’s support as she competes for Young Miss South Carolina July 15 in Hartsville.
Clemson University has been named one of the nation’s top-ranked, up-and-coming universities with the best returns on investment, according to Best Value Schools.
The school is No. 6 on the website’s list “Ranking the Best Up-And-Coming Universities Based on ROI.”

Wellford Council passed the first reading of the 2014-2015 fiscal year budget on June 3 following a public hearing, and due to a budget increase, residents can expect to pay an additional 3.6 mills. Wellford residents currently pay 57.9 mills.

At its recent meeting, the Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) heard several updates from general manager Jeff Tuttle.
After an unusually cold winter, natural gas reserves dropped and prices went up, Tuttle said. They’re now returning to pre-winter levels, he said.

Lyman council voted unanimously to pursue a council form of government on Monday night. If passed on the second reading, residents could see a referendum on the November ballot.
Mayor Rodney Turner suggested he might petition to also include a council-manager form of government on the ballot.
