Greer Relief has been the beneficiary of five local initiatives in recent weeks.

Last Thursday, Greer Farmers’ Market dedicated its final market of the season to the nonprofit’s “Stone Soup” fundraiser.

Those who attended the event donated a total of 80 cans of food and raised $300 in funds for the nonprofit.

The holiday season will get underway this Saturday, as Breakfast with Santa tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. at Greer City Hall.
This year’s breakfast sessions will be held on Dec. 2 at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. The will  include a hot breakfast, crafts and activities, music, and a personal visit with Santa.

A Fall Festival was recently held at the Taylors Mill, featuring live music, fall food and local artisan vendors. The event ran from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23.

The Drechler family took part in Greer’s annual Oktoberfest celebration last Saturday in downtown. The event, hosted each year by the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, featured authentic German food, entertainment and activities for children.

Man hit, killed on Greer bridge

A man attempting to help a broken-down vehicle off the road was hit and killed by another car last Friday on SC 80 in Greer.

Authorities say 20-year-old Corey Blake Rabb was hit from behind and died on the scene at around 8:30 p.m.

The incident occurred at the bridge area of J. Verne Smith Parkway and E. Poinsett St. Extension.
