City officials broke ground on a $10.8 million streetscape project Tuesday morning, marking the start of an 18 month effort to transform Greer’s downtown.
The project, which is being called CenterG, will revamp sidewalks and roads along Trade Street. The streetscape project has an estimated completion date of June, 2020.
The City of Greer recently received an unmodified opinion for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Audit.
David Phillips with Greene Finney presented the annual report to Greer City Council last Tuesday.
The Greer Planning Commission will recommend that Greer City Council deny a proposed private school at 1198 Abner Creek Road.
The matter will be brought to council at the Feb. 12 meeting. Consideration will not include a public hearing. Anyone from the public wishing to speak on the matter will need to contact the clerk ahead of time.
The Greer Citizen will name its 2018 Citizen of the Year in next week’s edition.

Line dancing classes occur every Wednesday
A senior line dancing class at the Tryon Recreation Center has been growing over the past couple of years and now meets every Wednesday with around 37 seniors attending each time.

CrossFit Greer began planning a move last summer due to continued growth and a need for more space.
The gym, which used to be located on Wade Hampton, is now open at 199 Hunt Street near the intersection of Poinsett Street and Wade Hampton Blvd.
