Annie Ruth Sloan Newton

Annie Ruth Parris Sloan Newton, 86, of Greer, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2020.

A native of Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond O. and Virginia Tucker Parris. She is the widow of Ansel Sloan whom she was married 39 years and her late husband, Rev. Kenneth Newton. She retired from Springs Industries and Walmart. She loved her church and was a long time member of Praise Cathedral Church of God.

Surviving are her adopted daughter and caregiver, Alice Wade Garretson of the home; daughter, Sandra Haun (Milton) of Taylors; grandson, Jay Ross (Katie) of Greer; granddaughter, Melissa Scruggs (Billy) of Fountain Inn; two great-grandchildren, Margaret Alice and Isaac Scruggs; one brother, James Parris (Steve) of Flowery Branch, GA and two sisters, Eloise Barton (Glen) of Lyman and Vickie Cooper (Gary) of Tryon, NC.

Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Parris, and one sister, Doris Wilson.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Praise Cathedral Church of God, conducted by Pastor Jerry Madden and Ken Howard. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jay Ross, Ron Blackwell, Shane Brown, Lance Barton, Michael Doster and Brandon Benton.

Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The families are at their respective homes.

The family would like to thank Spartanburg Hospice, Mildred Wade, Angela Doster and Amanda DeYoung for all their love and caregiving.
