Betty C. Herman

Staff Reports's picture

Betty Clayton Herman departed this life on September 11, 2017 to join her beloved husband of 57 years, William (Bill) Herman in heaven. Betty was born on October 15, 1933 to the late Sherman and Julia Clayton and was a lifelong resident of the Greer area. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and sister Beatrice Hammett. She was a tireless worker outside the home and retired from National Lock in 1996. Betty was a gentle and beautiful soul. Kind words, sweet smiles and warm hugs describe her best. Without reservation she loved her husband, her family, her friends and church family. In turn we all adored her for the simple purity of her love. Truly, a life well-lived and loved.

Betty leaves behind three children to cherish her memory, Phil (Cindi), Patti (Ray) Clark and Eric (Cindy). Two grandchildren, Adam Dye and Kayla Herman, had the privilege of a most loving grandmother in their lives. Betty is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

The family asks you to join us for a visitation and service at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Visitation will be at the church from 1:30-2:45 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Honorary escort will be the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for their extraordinary care and compassion during Betty’s final days. They proved to us that not all angels have wings we can see.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local charity of your choice, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills or to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Betty firmly believed that charity began at home, so help those around you first. Betty will be smiling down from heaven when you do.
