Betty Gulley Digby, 88, widow of Ronald Edward Digby, passed away peacefully at home in Greer on June 29, 2018.

Born and raised in Duncan, she was the youngest child of Bertha Moss and Marvin Warren Gulley.  She is predeceased by her parents; brother, Joseph Gulley; and great-grandson, Samuel Wood Taylor.

Surviving are daughter, Cynthia Digby Wood (Robert), of Pickens; son, Christopher Edward Digby, of Greer; and dear “Duncan Darling” sister, Clara Nelle Hance, of Newberry.  She is also survived by five grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth Wood (Scott Taylor), of Waynesville, North Carolina; Sarah Digby Wood Guth (Gary), of Greenville; Jesse Marguerite Wood, of Clemson; and Katherine Elizabeth Digby and Matthew Edward Digby, both of Raleigh, North Carolina.  Surviving also are four great-grandchildren Jackson Wood Guth, Benjamin Reid Guth, Eli Andrew Guth, and Ava Leigh Wood Taylor, and 15 nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Duncan High School, attended business school in Spartanburg, and worked at the Greer Commission of Public Works.  She and Ron enjoyed 63 years of marriage, in Greer, Columbia, and then back in Greer.

She valued friendships; several lasted more than 80 years.  She loved people--doing good for them and having fun with them.  She was stylish, generous, outspoken, kind, and spunky.

Like many women of her generation, she chose to work inside the home, making it a source of beauty and nourishment for her family.  She cooked 65 years of tasty Southern meals.  She sewed, did needlepoint, created arts and crafts, shopped for bargains, volunteered for church, civic, and children’s activities, and played a mean game of bridge.  She found her vocational calling in the wedding business and worked as the bridal consultant for Belk department store.

She and Ron traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Brazil, delighting all she met with her lovely Southern accent.

She was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Union, Greer First Baptist Church, and the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.

Her family wishes to thank caregivers, Julie Kees, Sherry Marsh, Stephanie Peck, Kamilah Terrell, Regina Green, and Kevin Gibson for their loving care as well as Halcyon Hospice.

The family is at home.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Doug Mize and Mrs. Dottie Bryson.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 3-3:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Honorary escort will be the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class of Greer First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Greer First Baptist Church, 202 W. Poinsett St., Greer, SC 29652 or Greer Community Ministries, PO Box 1373, Greer, SC 29652.
