Dr. Joel Hill Fisher
Dr. Joel Hill Fisher, 79, of Greer, passed away on August 4, 2020 at Greenville Memorial Hospital from a massive heart attack.
He was a native of Gastonia, NC and a son of the late Rev. Robert Grant Fisher and Nina Mae Hill Fisher. Mr. Fisher was a former member of Taylors First Baptist Church. Joel graduated from Carson-Newman University and earned a doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Dillon, SC. He was a great sports fan, having played and coached. He was a lifelong Tennessee Volunteers fan and he also loved the South Carolina Gamecocks. His other passion was western movies.
Joel was married to Amelia Lorene Fisher for 27 years. They were not only married, they were best friends.
Joel is survived also by a daughter, Rhetta Fisher of Knoxville, TN; a son, Tony Fisher (Angie) of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Caina Fisher (fiancé Taylor) and Jade Marie Gilliam (John); three great-grandchildren, Autumn Gilliam, Aleevia Gilliam and Adam Gilliam; step-children, Lori Smith of Barnwell, and Alicia Piggins (Dan) of Lyman; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Phillips Orth (Josh) and Mason Piggins of Lyman; two step-great-grandchildren, Annabella and Clay Orth; one brother, Hal Fisher (Edith) of Catawba; one sister, Nancy Fisher Moore (Roy) of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-law, Camille Bishop (Paul) of MA; and special friends, Lewis and Frances Whittle of Aiken and Harold and Mickey Moody of Hamer.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Wood Memorial Park, Duncan, conducted by Dr. Gene Lockaby.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service keeping in mind the social distancing guidelines.
Pallbearers will be Caina Fisher, John Gilliam, Dan Piggins, Mason Piggins, Josh Orth and Tim Saunders.
The families are at their respective homes.
