Elizabeth Jordan Miller

Elizabeth Jordan Miller (94) of Greer, died April 15, 2015, at The Cottages at Brushy Creek.

Born in St. George, S.C., Mrs. Miller was the daughter of Marion Lee and Alice Klauber Jordan. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband (the Rev. Irving Roscoe Miller); and her sister and brother-in-law (Marguerite Jordan and Richard Wayne Allen of Love’s Park, Illinois).

She played on the high school basketball team, received the Citizenship Award and was valedictorian of her St. George High School Class.

Mrs. Miller, or “Lib” as she was known at Winthrop College, graduated with a B.S. degree, magna cum laude, in Commerce.  There she was involved in many extra-curricular activities and clubs.  She was the winner of the academic Gill Wylie Scholarship in her freshman year, a member of Beta Alpha, Kappa Delta Pi, Senior Order, and Chief Marshal.  Elizabeth was also selected to be listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

Mrs. Miller worked as a stenographer in Charlotte for the FBI, taught business classes at St. George High School, Greer High School, and Greer Adult School.  She retired in 1981 after teaching 21 years at Greer High School. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for 53 years, where she served as treasurer eight years, and was a member of the Fellowship Class, the United Methodist Women and the Happy Hearts Club.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter: Marion Clare Miller (Beth Walker) of Moore; Francis Irving Miller of Blue Ridge, SC; Donald Jordan Miller (Betty Fleming) of Greenwood; and Janice Miller Brogden (Henry Joseph) of Holly Springs, North Carolina.  

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Angie (Eric) Jefferson; Chris Miller; Tawnya Miller; Joel Miller (Amy Welter); Nicole (Matt) Scott; Jared Brogden (Jenna Marie); Jessica (Mike) Pope; Jenna Brogden; Jenn (Matt) Ellis; Julia Miller; Kathy (Moye) Howard; Chuck Miller (Jill), and 14 great-grandchildren: Katy Miller-Seay; Nevada and Kelsey Jefferson; Jasmine and Christopher Miller; Bree and Mackenzee Howard; Emily, Connor and Logan Scott; Addison, Olivia and Solomon Miller; Hudson Ellis. Also three nieces and one nephew of Illinois.

Funeral services were held at Grace United Methodist Church, 627 Taylor Road, Greer, 29651 at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 19. Rev. Robert Cox officiated, assisted by Rev. Dr. James D. Jordan and Rev. Charles (Chuck) Miller.  Burial followed at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1005 Highway 357.

The family received friends before the service from 2-2:45 p.m.
