Ollie Brown Khan, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg.

A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Oscar Alexander and Clara Gertrude Bentley Brown, she went to Washington, D.C. at the age of sixteen, during World War II, to work for the US Information Agency (USIA), now known as the US State Department; she served two tours for the U.S. Foreign Service in Rome, Italy at the US Embassy.  She returned to Greenville to work for Congressman James Mann and then began her career with the Social Security Administration, where she retired.  

Surviving are one niece, Sylvia Brown Newsome (Craig) of Weddington, North Carolina; two great nephews, Zachary D. Newsome of Charleston, and Alexander W. Newsome of Weddington, North Carolina; and one great niece, Samantha S. Newsome of Weddington, North Carolina.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Oscar Ray Brown and Jamie L. Brown and his wife, Elsa H. Brown, and one nephew, David Ray Brown.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jean Smith.  Burial followed in Wood Memorial Park.

Visitation was held 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
