Patsy J. Atkins

Patsy J. Atkins, 76, passed away May 26, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born April 21, 1941, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Patsy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Col. (USAF Ret) Benny J. Atkins; daughter, Lisa Weidmann and Brian with their children Ian and Emma; daughter, Sue Munford and Glenn with their children Hannah and Dillon. Her brother, Carl Fillers and wife Jenny also survive her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pratt and Stella Fillers and her sister, Reba Sue Hayes.

Patsy graduated from Greer High School, in Greer, where she was the head drum majorette. She continued her education at Draughon’s Business College in Greenville. She and her husband Benny made many moves in nearly 30 years in the USAF and enjoyed them all. Patsy was a great home decorator and exceptional gardener as well. As a homemaker for most of her adult life, she devoted herself to her family – her spouse, children, and grandchildren always a priority.

Patsy, a beautiful person inside and out, will continue to be a role model for her family and friends. She was a true lady – wise, caring, steady, sensible, never judgmental. She was optimistic and she always saw the positive in people and situations. Her strength and love will bring us comfort and carry her family through this time of sorrow.

A graveside service was held Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 9:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice and Meals on Wheels.
