Talmadge (Pete) Edward Underwood, Sr., 83, of 645 Flynn Road, died Aug. 17, 2015 at Alpha Health and Rehab in Greer.
A native of Alabama, he was the son of the late Bluford and Lillie Mae Brooks Underwood. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church, former produce manager for Kash and Karry Grocery in Greenville (1951-1967) and retired owner of Underwood’s Septic Tank Service (1967-1997). Pete was an avid horseman and won many championship sportsman trophies in beagling, hunting, fishing and bowling.
He survived by his wife of 11 years, Linda Kirby Underwood of the home; four children and their spouses, Eddie (Phyllis) Underwood of Kingstree, Brenda (Ronnie) Few of Taylors, Gary Underwood of Greer, and Kim (Derek) Turner of Greer; one brother, Bud (Faye) Underwood of Alabama; sisters, Irene Freeman of Alabama and Ruth Golightly of Spartanburg; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Joyce M. Underwood, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington Baptist Church, conducted by the Dr. Drew Hines, Rev. Mark Smith, and Rev. Delano McMinn. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary escorts will be his nephews and beagle and fishing club members.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary.
