Ruth Brown Hodges, residing in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, entered the gates of Heaven on May 26, 2019.

 

She was born in Pickens, SC, on August 5, 1920 to Richard Maxwell and Cannie Mae Ferguson. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Hodges, her parents, her brothers Charles and Paul Ferguson, and her sister Grace Williams. 

 

She is survived by her son, Ret. Brig. Gen. Gary Brown; daughter Linda Squires and husband Joel Squires; her sister Dot Huff; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. Prior to moving to Fort Walton Beach, Ruth was a member of Northwood Baptist Church and was a former Worthy Matron in Eastern Star. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruth was a very kind, gentle, and caring person and was loved by all who knew her. One of her most notable and admired characteristics was her quick wit. She always thought of a funny and appropriate remark or response.

 

A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Michael Joe Harvell, will be held August 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Remembrance Chapel in Greenville. Internment will follow the service. All who knew Ruth and would like to attend are welcome to join her family in the celebration of her life.
