William Earl (Billy) McCullough
William Earl (Billy) McCullough, 77, widow of Frances Whilden McCullough, of Greer, SC, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.
Billy is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony McCullough and his wife Connie, and Tim McCullough and his wife Sharon, all of Greer. In addition, he is survived by his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Jonathan (Jessica) McCullough of Taylors; Matthew (Kajsa) McCullough of Greenville; and Ryan McCullough, Andrew McCullough, and Sarah McCullough all of Greer. He is also survived by his fiancé Kaye S. Moore, and his brother, Grady (Pap) McCullough of Boiling Springs. Billy was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy McCullough.
Billy was born on July 10, 1941 in Boiling Springs, SC, and was the son of the late William Travis and Catherine Weathers McCullough. He was a Class of 1958 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and attended Clemson University. On September 15, 1959, Billy opened up McCullough Shoes at the A&G Shopping Center in Greer. Three years later to the day, he would marry Frances and make Greer his home. Billy was self-employed and owned and operated numerous businesses in the Greer area over a span of 59 years. He always had a strong passion for the automotive industry with many of his businesses in this area. At the time of his death, he was the owner of McCullough Properties, Greer Storage, and Auto Market.
Billy was a charter member of Northwood Baptist Church where he served on the Finance, Building, and Activities committees. He loved Northwood and faithfully supported the church and its ministries. He was also a charter member of the Sertoma Club of Greer. In Sertoma, he held numerous leadership positions at both the local and regional level and was once the Distinguished Governor of the Pioneer District. He has been awarded countless Sertoma awards over the years and most recently received an appreciation award for his 50 years of outstanding and dedicated service to the Sertoma Club of Greer. He was also a recipient of the Sertoma Foundation President’s Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of his efforts with the Camp Sertoma Endowment Campaign in SC. One of his greatest joys was helping underprivileged or speech and hearing impaired children attend Camp Sertoma in Clemson, SC. In 2014, a water slide at Camp Sertoma was dedicated in memory of his late wife, Frances McCullough. Billy also served a total of 18 years on the board of the Greenville County Redevelopment Association with three of those years as Board Chairman, and was the Chairman of the Board of the Neighborhood Housing Corporation for four years.
In 2009, he received a Key to the City of Greer for his dedication and support to his community, the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority Board and the City of Greer and its citizens. He supported Greer Community Ministries, Greer Relief, and numerous other local charities, organizations, and school-related groups. He was an active member of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, a graduate of Leadership Greer VIII where he served as Class President, and was also awarded the Small Business Person of the Year by the Chamber. Billy loved Greer and believed in giving back to the community that was so good to him. He was also a member of the Bailey Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
The family would like to especially thank Interim Healthcare and the many caregivers for their loving care and support.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Wood Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Northwood Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Eric Wooten. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
The family is at the home.
Pallbearers will be Tony McCullough, Tim McCullough, Jonathan McCullough, Matthew McCullough, Ryan McCullough, Andrew McCullough, and Pap McCullough.
