This year was not without sadness, as the Greer community suffered the loss of several of its instrumental members and leaders. Listed are a few of those lost and remembered in 2014.
Laura Jean Posey Underwood, 77, of 412 Mt. Lebanon Church Road, widow of Drexal Underwood, died December 30, 2014 at her home.
A native of Blount County, Alabama, daughter of the late Arthur and Prudie Holland Posey, she was a retired employee of Homelite/John Deere after 32 years and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Tammy Rene Dawson, 44, of Campobello, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29, 2014.
Mary Frances Cannon Honeycutt of Tifton, and formerly of Dunwoody passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 21, 2014. She was 82. She leaves a long list of family and friends, who loved her dearly.
Lucille Howard Searcy, 85, of 1476 South McElhaney Road, widow of the late Howard Searcy, died December 28, 2014.
A native of Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Joshua “Josh” and Lillie Howard, a homemaker and attended O’Neal Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Lamar Searcy of the home.
Gail Nix Rollins, 71, died December 28, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Greer, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Lou Southern Nix.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Todd Henson of Inman; a brother, Leland Nix of Greer; and two grandsons, Eli Henson and Deacon Henson.
Martha Evelyn Adkins Dickenson, 74, of 503 Maplewood Circle, died December 24, 2014 at McCall Hospice House of Greenville.
A native of Frankfort, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd T. and Queen Etta Williams Adkins, a homemaker and attended Truth Baptist Church in Union, SC.
Keith Franklin Wilcox died from a heart attack on December 13, 2014 in London, England where he has resided for almost 30 years.
He was born April 22, 1952 to Marion Wilcox (deceased) and Shirley Wilcox who resides at Peabody Inn in North Manchester, Indiana.
Ruby Louise Howard Surner, 75, widow of John Carlton Surner, died Oct. 22, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
A native of Hendersonville, North Carolina, daughter of the late William Emery “Buck” and Hettie Bradley Howard, she was a homemaker and a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church.
Edward R. Semran, 85, of Lyman, passed away on Oct. 22.
He was born April 4, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in North Jersey and lived for 25 years in Brick Town before moving to Lyman.
