The Greater Greer community lost several members of its business, civic and religious circles in 2017. Although gone, their lives and contributions will leave a lasting legacy on the town and its residents for years to come.

A graveside memorial service for Charles W. Tapp, a native of Greer, will be held on Wednesday, December 27th at 11:30 a.m. The service will be held at the Washington Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 14, Greer.

In case of inclement weather the service will be held at Wood Mortuary, 300 W. Poinsett St. Greer at the same hour.

Martha Eloise Henderson Smith, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 peacefully at home. Born February 5, 1923 in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hammett Henderson and Marjorie Lavella Huff Henderson.

Joseph Kenneth Talley, Jr., 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 17, 2017.

A native of Greenville County, son of Joseph Kenneth Talley, Sr. and Sara Jean Langley Talley of Greer, he was a carpenter and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Richard Dale Pittman, 52, passed away December 9, 2017.

A native of Greenville County, son of Layton and Linda Cobb Pittman, he was an employee of Langley & Associates Architects and a member of First Baptist Church of Gowensville.

Virginia Dobbins Sloan, 82, widow of Barney R. Sloan, passed away Dec. 2, 2017.

A daughter of the late Baxter Eugene and Faye Jones Dobbins, she was a retired employee of Cryovac and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

John Allan Jones went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

He was born Aug. 30, 1940 in Greenville County, the only son of John B. Jones, Jr. and Janie Cox Jones.

Timothy Wayne Cline, Sr., 60, widower of Leola “T.I.” Cline, passed away on November 25, 2017.
