GPD’s Sgt. Jeff Smith retires after 28 years
Mayor Rick Danner and Greer City Council recognized Greer Police Sgt. Jeff Smith for 28 years of service during last week’s regular meeting.
Smith, who joined the local force in January of 1994, retires November 18 to become director of public safety at North Greenville University.
Chili challenge
Wellford Rescue 13 and Duncan Car 113 participated in the first Breaking Bread For Jesus Car Show/Chili Cook Off last Saturday. There were two blind taste tests conducted for six chili entries. Duncan Station 13 placed 1st in one tasting, and Wellford Station 81 placed 2nd and 3rd in both tastings.

Goode receives 30-year sentence for murder
A Spartanburg man received a 30-year prison sentence November 9 for shooting his girlfriend to death.
Michael Goode, Jr., 50, pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime last Wednesday morning at the Cherokee County Courthouse.

City transfers K-9 Boss to handler’s ownership
The City of Greer is transferring ownership of K-9 Boss to his handler, Officer Jordan Williams.
Council unanimously approved with a 6-0 vote the First and Final Reading of Resolution Number 19-2022 approving the conveyance of city property.

McClain receives 18-year prison sentence
A Campobello man received an 18-year prison sentence Wednesday, Nov. 2, for a day-long crime spree in northern Spartanburg County.
Samuel Olen McClain, 66, pleaded guilty to bank robbery, petit larceny, and attempted armed robbery.
