Afternoon fright: Family members console each other following an accident that occurred last Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Boiling Springs and Phillips roads.  No one was seriously hurt in the crash, which occurred after rain dampened the streets.

Duncan man facing robbery charges

A Duncan man is behind bars at The Spartanburg County Detention Center after police say he robbed two Dollar General Stores, a Kangaroo gas station, and attempted to rob a Citgo gas station. Robert Craig Allen, 53, of 5 Princess Drive, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery.

Citizens invited to become honorary members of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Office

Due to the increasing number of people wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime, Greenville County Sheriff, Steve Loftis announced last week that Greenville County citizens are being invited to become Honorary Members of the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association.

GFD celebrates 100 years

This year the Greer Fire Department celebrates 100 years of serving the Greer community.

On Nov. 1, 1914, the Greer Fire Company, Greer’s first fire station, was established on Randall Street, with Mack Fowler being named the first fire chief.
