Glassy Mountain Fire Department (GMFD) fielded a team of four firefighters to compete in the First Responder Challenge of the American Lung Association's Fifth Annual Fight for Air Climb on Sept. 17 at the Landmark Building in Greenville.

Assault on an officer
On Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, Michael A. Roberts of Greer was riding his bicycle on the side of North Hwy 25 when he entered into a lane of traffic and was struck by a tractor-trailer.
He was air lifted to Mission Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
A Lake Cunningham firefighter was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday morning, according to Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.
Adam Cory Shaver, 28, passed away after striking a truck on Haywood Road near Halton Road.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) hosted the Tactical Deployment K9 Workshop on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Center for Advanced Training Facility, located at 150 Thurston Road in Taylors. The workshop consisted of 68 dog teams, representing 44 agencies from 12 different states.

Joseph Lee Suttles, 40, was a resident at a group home, operated by Care Focus and located at 22 Fairford Circle, Taylors.
Care Focus provides contract residential care for patients of the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.
The Tyger River Fire Department recently conducted a Smoke Alarm Blitz in the community, successfully installing 170 alarms in 50 different residential locations. The fire department teamed up with the American Red Cross to conduct the blitz.
