“Magical.”
That’s the word Eastside baseball coach Scott Erwin used to describe his team’s 2019 state championship.
The two wins over Midland Valley last May gave the Eagles their first baseball title in school history, and Erwin’s team is hoping to capture more of that magic this season.
They’ll be back.
The Byrnes softball team has proven that over the last decade, competing in multiple state championships and winning titles in 2014 and 2017.
The Rebels’ loss to Lexington last May still sits with them, however, and they’re using it as fuel.
Seven area wrestlers claimed titles at the individual state tournament last weekend.

Eastside High basketball player Dorian Miles recently celebrated reaching the 1000 point milestone of his high school career.

The Eagles qualified wrestlers in all but two weight classes at Upper State.
The Lady Rebels came up just short of an Upper State title game appearance, falling to Clover Monday night, 63-55.
A 28-point outing from Clover’s Aylesha Wade proved to be more than Byrnes could handle, as the Blue Eagles pulled away in the second half with an 18-8 third quarter run.
North Greenville is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s most recent Division II poll.
The Crusaders are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Queens University (Charlotte) and a one-run loss to Anderson University.
North Greenville also earned a recent series sweep over Barton College to begin conference play.
