The Greer Middle College boys and girls cross country teams claimed Class AA State Championships last Week in Camden.
The girls finished nine points ahead of St. Joesph’s to claim the win, while the boys edged out Philip Simmons with 62 team points.
The Rebels’ title hopes were extinguished Friday night at Nixon Field, as Gaffney got revenge and advanced to the Upper State final.
The 34-20 loss was only the second of the season for a Byrnes team that dominated Gaffney, 57-30, on the road in September.
Five Crusaders, including former Byrnes standout Aaron Watson, were named to the All-Conference team following the team’s 3-7 finish.

Four Byrnes High varsity football players have been selected to play in post-season all-star games.
Lineman Chuck Strickland and defensive end Josh Byrd will compete in the North-South Game on Saturday, Dec. 14, in Myrtle Beach.
