The Yellow Jackets couldn’t hang on to an early lead, as a late Mauldin stampede resulted in a 24-21 loss at Dooley Field.
It took a while for the game to get going last Friday night, and it took Blue Ridge even longer.
In a game that was delayed due to lighting, the Tigers struggled early and often, suffering their first loss of the season to Chapman, 80-19.

The third time was a charm. Greer’s Yellow Jackets shot out of the third straight hole they had dug for themselves and went on to defeat Westside High, 36-28 on the road in Anderson on Friday night.
It was a gutsy call.
Having just scored in overtime, all Blue Ridge had to do was kick the extra point, even the game at 21, and live to fight another day.
But head coach James Thurn wanted to go for the win. And so did his players.
The hot-streak continues for the Rebels.
Byrnes dominated the Hough Huskies of Cornelius, North Carolina in its home opener at Nixon Field last Friday night, sealing a 44-7 win and a 3-0 start to the season.
The Rebels held a 31-0 advantage at halftime, and the score only got more lop-sided from there.
