Hash putting up huge numbers

Former Greer High standout Chandler Hash is off to a monstrous start to his senior season at Anderson University.

The guard led the team in scoring in seven of his first eight games this season, averaging more than 25 points. Hash scored a career-high 42 points in a win over GRU Augusta earlier this season.

Two area players in Shrine Bowl

Two area football players will represent South Carolina this Saturday in the 77th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

The contest will take place at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
From the Greer area will be Byrnes receiver Shaedon Meaders and Byrnes offensive lineman Benjamin Clark.

The Greer boys’ basketball team exacted revenge against Byrnes last week, topping the Rebels in a tight 71-67 contest. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-4 on the season.

Eagles pull away from Blue Ridge

The Eastside High boys’ basketball team was a perfect 3-3 last week, edging out Riverside, Wade Hampton and Blue Ridge to move to 6-2 on the season.

The Eagles earned a 68-56 win over Riverside and a 63-59 victory over Wade Hampton, wrapping up the week at Blue Ridge with a 56-48 win.

Confused Carolina fan

There’s nothing I love more about sports than North Carolina basketball.

I remember my dad telling me stories of the 1982 championship game, an occasion he celebrated in Chapel Hill. He recalls a quick rush to Franklin Street in downtown shortly after the win.
