Eagles search for answers

Eastside’s homecoming was spoiled by Berea running back Stevie Williams, who exposed the Eagles defense last Friday night, racking up 340 rushing yards on more than 33 carries.

Eastside fell to the Bulldogs, 32-20, dropping its fifth straight region game. With the loss, the Eagles move to 1-7 on the year.

Warriors aim for back-to-back wins

It has been a year of “firsts” for the Riverside Warriors and the team is hoping to continue that Friday night.

Riverside has never won back-to-back Region II-AAAA games, but head coach Phil Smith believes his guys have a good chance against J.L. Mann if they continue to play and practice hard.

Tyler Wright and the undefeated Yellow Jackets will hit the road for the final time this season on Friday to take on Southside.

Greer will have to double down on focus this week. That Focus, the primary attribute that sets the 2014 Yellow Jackets apart, will be tested by distractions this Friday night when Greer visits Southside High for a key region match-up.

Isaiah Hill rushed for a score during Byrnes’ win on Friday night at Nixon Field. The Rebels are now 3-0 in region play.

Byrnes knocks off Riverside, 49-14

Byrnes used a second half surge to ease past Riverside Friday night, downing the Warriors 49-14 to move to 3-0 in region play.

The Rebels gave Mason Streater the start at quarterback, who connected with Chavis Dawkins on a 39-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter to give Byrnes a quick 6-0 lead.

Xavier Wright caught a touchdown pass from Mario Cusano during the Jackets’ blowout win over Berea.

Bulldogs no match for Greer

“Every time they give me the ball, I just want to get to the end zone.”

Those words came from Greer running back Adrian McGee, who took Greer’s first offensive play 61 yards from scrimmage for a touchdown, giving the Yellow Jackets a lead they would not relinquish on Friday night at Dooley Field.

Eagles fall to Tigers, 35-14

The Eagles were unable to hold off Southside Friday night, falling behind late during its 35-14 defeat.

Eastside, now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in region play, got off to a good start as Drake Turnquist found Trevis McDowell for a 12-yard touchdown late in the first quarter, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
