Greer broke out of the post-season doldrums in a big way Friday night by stampeding the South Aiken Thoroughbreds to advance to the third round of the upstate playoffs for just the second time in ten years.

For the fifth year in a row, the Riverside girls cross country team is the Class AAAAA state champion.

The team finished with 63 points to claim the title, outscoring JL Mann, which had 93.

The combination of high stakes and a big rivalry is expected to fill the Dooley Field stands Friday night when Greer hosts Greenville in the third round of the Upstate 4-A playoffs, a battle of evenly-matched teams that are 11-1 on the season.

The middle-aged man without a ride for 2018 drove a dagger through the heart of the youngster expected to shine in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for years to come.

The 2017 football season came to an end on Saturday as the Crusaders fell to West Alabama, 29-26.

The game also marked the official end of North Greenville’s “independent” classification, as the Crusaders will the Gulf South Conference next season.

Eastside quarterback Jordan Morgan rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two more during the Eagles’ round one win (45-23) over Wren at home last Friday.

The teams traded scores in the first quarter, as Morgan got the Eagles on the board with a 1-yard run.

A number one seed should defeat a number four, and that’s how it went Friday night at Dooley Field where Greer tamed Daniel’s Lions, 42-7, to advance to the second round of the Class AAAA football playoffs.

No team has been able to slow down TL Hanna this season, and that didn’t change last Friday, as Byrnes dropped its playoff opener to the Yellow Jackets, 57-7.

Hanna will move on to play Greenwood in the second round after ending the Rebels season at 7-4.
