Riverside senior Richard DeMatos will help build a brand new lacrosse program, signing a recent letter of intent with North Greenville University.

DeMatos made his decision alongside two teammates, Tristan Lawrence and Jake Bertka.

Riverside senior Tristan Lawrence will be walking into unfamiliar territory next season.

He, along with two of his high school teammates, will take the field for North Greenville University lacrosse team next season in the program’s inaugural season.
Lawerence signed a letter of intent with the Crusaders two weeks ago.

Jake Bertka

Riverside senior Jake Bertka will continue his lacrosse career at the next level after signing a letter of intent with North Greenville University last week.

Bertka said the decision was an obvious one.

Shaun Blackmon

Riverside senior Shaun Blackmon will run track and field and cross country for Limestone College next season after signing a recent letter of intent to continue his career at the next level.

Blackman said Limestone seemed like the right place for him.

Allie Arsiniega

Riverside’s Allie Arsiniega will be hitting the road after high school after recently signing a letter of intent to run track and field and cross country with Florida’s Nova Southeastern University.

Arsiniega said she is excited for the new opportunity.

The Lady Rebels celebrated a state championship berth last week, defeating Clover to advance in the postseason. Byrnes opened its final series against Bluffton with a win this week.

Championship in sight

The Lady Rebels are one win away from their ultimate goal.

The Byrnes softball team edged Bluffton in a 3-2 victory Monday night, securing game one of the Class AAAA state championship series.

Byrnes coach Brandi Aiken said she was pleased with her team’s effort.

The Eastside girls’ soccer team fell to Chapin in the Upper State championship Monday night.

Eagles make push for state title

The Eastside boys’ soccer team has been tearing through the Class AAA state playoffs, beating Belton-Honea Path, Chapin and A.C. Flora in route to the Upper State final.

The Eagles took on River Bluff on Tuesday for a chance to advance to the stat championship. Results were not available at press time.

EHS falls in Upper State

The Eastside baseball team’s playoff run was cut short last week, but head coach Scott Erwin said his team showed a lot of toughness throughout the season.

The Eagles dropped games to A.C. Flora and Wren, coming up just shy of reaching a state championship appearance.

Briana Hunter

Eastside senior Briana Hunter signed a letter of intent with Carson-Newman College to continue her soccer career at the next level earlier this week.

Hunter said she knows her decision is the right one.

“I am psyched out of my mind,” Hunter said. “I’m just really excited.”
