Eastside edged Blue Ridge last week during a 1-0 overtime win. The Eagles are now No. 9 in the Class AAAA rankings.

The Byrnes baseball team slipped past Greer on Monday night, edging the Yellow Jackets 2-1. Both teams have struggled to get going in region play and will look to bounce back this week.

Freshman Jamie Williams got his first win for the Rebel baseball team, as Byrnes topped Greer 2-1 Monday night.

Williams also had the go-ahead RBI in the game, sealing a much-needed win for his team.

Freshman Jack Thompson also had a strong outing for the Rebels, going 2-3 from the plate during the defensive battle.

Riverside knocked off region opponent Hillcrest last week after enduring a big storm.

The week didn’t go according to plan for head coach Travis Pitman and the Riverside baseball team.

“Scheduling last week was a nightmare,” Pitman said. “The storm dropped a ton of rain and hail on our field, so we had to cancel Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games and reschedule our region game with Hillcrest on Saturday.

Tourney returns to Greenville

The NCAA Tournament returned to Greenville for the first time since 2002, but the focus of the weekend wasn’t completely on men’s basketball.

The event, originally slated to be in Greensboro, North Carolina, was moved because of House Bill 2, North Carolina legislation which limits protections offered to LGBT people.
