Blame Cannada

Y’all, we have a social media problem.

Everyone knows this and we do nothing about it because we are addicted to it. Mindless, never-ending scrolling is now a fixture in our households, and it’s poisonous. I speak with authority on this topic because I am guilty. I am not judging you because I am, indeed, one of you.

I’m not one for playing the ponies.

I don’t usually buy scratch offs and I don’t bet on sports.

I’m not a big gambler is what I’m trying to say.

I’m a light-hearted guy (probably to a fault).

If you’ve spent any amount of time around me, you’re well aware of this. I like to laugh and, when it’s possible, I like to make other people laugh.

As you’ll read in this column, I usually avoid controversy. But I’d like to tell you guys my policy on face masks.

I realize that no topic is more divisive than masks, so I’m taking a big risk here, but hopefully my thoughts will resonate with some of you.

Let’s keep this between us, because it goes against popular opinion, but 2020 didn’t do anything to you. It’s a year. It isn’t causing all your problems. Those problems are still going to be there on Friday morning.

Then, you’ll probably start blaming 2021.

What a beautiful time of year to live in the great Upstate of South Carolina. The lights are glowing. The weather is just right. The Christmas greetings you receive on your daily commute are almost certain to brighten your holiday season.
