Plyler gives piano lessons to students in Greer
With more than a decade of experience under her belt, award winning piano instructor Sarah Plyler is now teaching Greer students.
Plyler has been in the business for 10 years, previously teaching in Villa Rica, Georgia where her studio was voted No.1 in October of 2019.
Her success, however, comes from experience.
“I never give a student a piece that I haven’t played,” she said.
Before class, Plyler creates her lesson plans, mixing older pieces from famous composers and new pieces from research conducted online.
“It’s a lot of lesson planning, being familiar with literature, and piecing together what will be best for each student,” she said. “I try to stay up to date on new materials,”
Plyler is subscribed to many online books that update constantly, keeping her material she teaches refreshed and up-to-date.
“I do use a book, but I don’t necessarily stick to just the book.”
Plyler teaches various age ranges— from young children still progressing out of their toddler years to retired residents.
“With a lot of the younger kids, we work on focus, attention, motor skills, and listening skills,” said Plyler. “I teach a lot of retired students who are trying to keep their minds running.”
Performances rotate around the school schedule.
“I don’t schedule anything for Christmas break, we aren’t going to try to have people stay for that. I don’t usually do anything during the summer either. I do try to do lessons during the summer, but usually a more relaxed version of lessons. That’s an optional lesson,” she said.
Plyler moved to Greer in August of 2019 from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated in 2010 from North Greenville University with a Bachelor of Arts in church music with piano as the focus.
Plyler also teaches at Pecknel Music Company at 1312 North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville.
