It was a bittersweet decision, but I will be retiring my pen and recorder to pursue other career opportunities. The field of journalism, though not always an easy one, was as much about developing myself as a journalist and writer as it was about exposure to the human experience. Everyone has a story to tell.

If you passed him on the street, you wouldn’t have recognized the man often donned in sweat pants, a sleeveless shirt and ball cap as the humble, life-saving genius he was. He was a quiet man who was a comedian to most, a friend to many and a loving husband and dedicated father to three.

This past weekend was a whirlwind of blowing up, tying and handing out balloons; packaging and handing out 200 bags of candy; promoting the newspaper’s survey, subscription discounts and Reader’s Choice; and coordinating our dunk tank in between chasing softballs to raise money for local charities.
