Despite a new movie coming out this fall about humans being able to control the weather, we are currently unable to do so.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves, hailstorms and the alignment of the sun and moon are beyond our control.

These manifestations of power come from a source other than ourselves.

Good old days

Now, you may be thinking, what right do you have to talk about ‘good old days’?

But no one can deny how much has changed in the past couple of decades from technology to entertainment to society as a whole.

I grew up with Veggie Tales and Looney Tunes.

Good teachers make a real difference in the world.

While they may never see the full results of their tireless efforts, they may catch a glimpse every once in a while.

My mom is an excellent teacher–one of the best.

Of course, I am biased because she is my mom, but she has gained more than 20 years of experience.

Entertainment is a part of everyday life.

When I use the word entertainment, I tend to think about movies, computer games and television.

We drove to the Isle of Palms to celebrate with a trip to the beach, where we enjoyed being near the ocean.

Summer has definitely arrived.

With the recent 90 degree weather and the Fourth of July holiday last week, summer is in full swing.

Schedules become more flexible with school not in session.

As a result, many families travel to visit relatives, take vacations or just get away from the daily grind of everyday life.

Growing up, my family had a garden whenever we could.

My parents, who are currently out of the country, have continued to plant a garden each year, and Brad and I have been able to help them harvest.

We gathered together with my older sister and her family the other weekend.

Nowadays, we celebrate our independence with fireworks.

Many of us gather together with family and friends to honor those who fight to keep our nation free and to share in community.
