Machine tool students at the J. Harley Bonds have one more tool in their arsenal to help prepare them for the real world.
The newest addition at the career center is a Haas simulator for the program, which machine tool instructor Roy Morris won at a trade show.
“You put your name in a hat and they drew my name out,” he said.
“Ragtime” has been a longtime coming at Blue Ridge High.
David Holland, Blue Ridge fine arts teacher, has wanted to do “Ragtime” for about 15 years. His students were begging for a musical, he said.
Danny White did not plan to become a single father. He also did not plan to become a published author.

For his first foray into inventing, River Ridge fourth grade student Noah McKinney went big.
His invention, the “Medi-Dri-Line,” protects a broviac line, which hangs from a person’s chest, from getting wet while bathing. McKinney’s Medi-Dri-Line won the overall grand prize from the 2014 Duke Energy Invention Convention.
Just a quick jaunt from Greer, on the other side of the state line, is home to the Tryon Arts and Crafts School.
Dinner, live music and fundraising will come together soon, as the Gap Creek Singers hold their annual cabaret night.
The fourth annual cabaret night starts at 6 p.m. March 29 in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian, 100 School St. The group will perform jazz, spirituals, easy listening and songs from Broadway musicals.
Right now, the Greer Community Garden does not look like much. The plots aren’t marked and nothing appears to be growing.
But in the coming weeks, all that will change. The field will be plowed and tilled, individual plots will take shape and food will be planted.
