A local author is highlighting grandparents in her new children’s book.
Marie Serio, a Taylors author of five books, released her most recent work, “Homemade Pizza at Grandma’s,” earlier in September.
“It’s based on when my little granddaughter came to visit me,” Serio said. “I was showing her how to make the dough.
Free kayak and canoe trips on Lake Robinson were provided by Sunrift Adventures during the Day of Celebration on Sunday. The event highlighted the lake as a critical environmental, recreational and economic resource for Greer and the larger Upstate community.
Randy Salyer, manager of the Swift Transportation terminal in Greer, started in 1989 as a driver.
After several years, he became a driver leader at the Greer terminal, which participated in a nationwide celebration of truck drivers earlier this month.
A local school is fighting alongside children who have cancer.
“We’re a very strong community,” said Jennifer Gibson, principal of Mountain View Elementary School. “What I like to see is just the kids and how they really care. This is important to them.”
The Miss Greater Greer Pageant is moving from spring to fall this year.
The Miss Greater Greer Scholarship Organization is currently seeking contestants for its annual pageant, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Greer High School.
The deadline for entry is Oct. 23.
Daniel Moran, 16, earned money for five months by working with a chiropractor to purchase a chainsaw this past summer.
“I wanted to learn how to use it,” Daniel Moran said, “and also we had trees around our house that needed to be cut down…and help other people too.”
