The home of Kathy and Hank Merkle was selected for the July Residential Yard of the Month. Chick-fil-A of Greer received the Business Yard of the Month for July. Both selections were made by the Greer Garden Club Council.

Queens compete for Miss SC

This week, 55 Miss and 64 Teen contestants from across the state will compete in the 2015 Miss South Carolina Pageant at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. Preliminaries began on Monday and will continue through Thursday. The finals competition and crowning will be held Friday at 7 p.m. for Miss South Carolina Teen and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Officer Shandrell Holcombe gives student participants a first-hand view of the Greer City Jail during the Greer Police Department Youth Leadership Camp this summer. In two, two-week sessions–one for middle school boys and one for girls–participants learn about police department operations, tour the facility and take field trips to the Police Academy in Columbia, culminating in a graduation ceremony.

Area students are familiar with school resource officers who provide safety and guidance in the learning environment, but often that accustomed affiliation is not shared in the broader community. As schools close and summer begins, the Greer Police Department is encouraging residents to acquaint themselves with their area patrol officers.
