NFL retirements

As you may have heard, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning retired Monday, signaling the end of a stellar playing career in which he hoisted two Vince Lombardi trophies and five league MVPs. He finished first in countless statistical categories and became a television sensation for his commericials and zeal for Papa John’s pizza.

Leap day

As I write this on Leap Day 2016, it seems like simply an extra day. My birthday isn’t on February 29, so the date hardly seems very special, and my little girl is still seven weeks from her due date, so there’s no chance for her to be a little leapling and graduate from high school at the tender age of four and a half.

Nowadays social media can gauge the interest of a particular news item. The number of persons engaging in online banter can easily broadcast the importance or curiosity of a particular event. Social media discussion is essentially the updated version of men talking in a barbershop or women meeting at the white picket fence.

A myriad of celebrities have placed their support behind various presidential hopefuls, and I thought we could all benefit (or get a laugh) from seeing who endorses whom.

Railroad v. newspaper

Maybe you were expecting another light-hearted column from me, but no such luck today. I have to inform the general public about an injustice, an attempt to silence freedom of speech, an infringement upon our rights! As always, please take this column seriously.

Thanks for the names!

Ridiculous news

I did some ridiculous news searching today and stumbled upon some very comical, if not sad, stories. I feel as though I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t share these with you.

My Hall of Fame ballot

The fate of some of baseball’s best stars lies in the hands of the Baseball Writer’s Association of America. I’m not one of those esteemed writers, so I don’t get a vote; however, if I did get a vote, I would do so for the names below.

Article royalties

A coworker here at the newspaper had a brilliant epiphany just the other day: What if journalists received royalties each time an article was read? Stop laughing. This is journalistic genius.
