Couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Reverend and Mrs. Jimmie Bruton, of Greer, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 21, 2021.

The Brutons were married May 21, 1971 in a yard ceremony by the late Reverend C.N. Sullivan with sisters, brothers, and friends in attendance.

They have two children Tamilia Monique Bruton and Seth Devon Bruton (Jeanie Wilson Bruton); four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Reverend Bruton is the son of the late James and Lucile Bruton, and is Pastor at New Faith Baptist Church in Wellford. He has been in Pastoral Ministry for over 30 years. He is also on the planning committee for the Breaking Bread for Jesus Food Kitchen Ministry, and Past President of the IMA of Greer.

Mrs. Bruton, the former Melva Gilliam, is the daughter of the late Essic and Pearl Gilliam. She retired in 2015 after over 40 years with BI-LO customer service at the Mauldin Corporate Office. She is Vice President of the Southeast Region of the International Minister’s Wives and Widows, Past S.C. President of the Ministers’ Wives, and has served in many other positions in the association.

The couple changed their plans from a formal celebration to a private getaway to a chalet in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, given by their children.
