Greer Relief’s seventh annual Care Fair through Helping Hands will take place Saturday, April 26 at 3610 Brushy Creek Road, from 10 a.m.-noon. The fair provides free services and information to low-income families.

Officials are in need of 70 volunteers for the upcoming Pelham Medical Center Greer Family Fest.

Volunteers are needed in ticket booths on Saturday, May 3 at any of the following shifts: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 1-4 p.m., 4-7 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.    

Dr. James P. Clements will be installed as the 15th president of Clemson University Friday, May 9, giving a unique twist to the school’s spring commencement ceremonies.

According to city officials, spring cleaning in the City of Greer often turns up bulky and nuisance trash items not collected in weekly garbage collection.

Greer residents braved the soggy conditions last year for the spring event, but officials are hoping for better weather this time around.

Presently, 12 states prohibit the use of hand-held cellphones while driving and 43 states ban texting while driving.

The City of Greer is considering passing an ordinance to ban texting, emailing and the use of electronic media when driving. Drivers, however, will still be permitted to talk on cellphones.

An ordinance prohibiting the use of mobile phones for text messaging, electronic media or emailing while driving dominated the April 8 Greer Council meeting, as councilmembers expressed opposing views on the issue.
