About 40 people made the mile-long walk from Memorial United Methodist Church to the Greer Soup Kitchen in the pouring rain on Sunday to help raise money to fight hunger in the city.

Greer Community Ministries is the beneficiary of the 23rd Annual Taylors Turkey Day 5-Can Run on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 9 a.m. at the Eastside High School track.

The 10th annual Merle State Hunger Walk will take place this Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. The walk, benefiting the Greer Soup Kitchen, will begin at Memorial United Methodist.

A Greer High School senior was killed in single-vehicle car crash Saturday on Highway 414 at Burrells Road, Taylors.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s office, 17-year-old Samantha Rybikowsky, of Holiday Road, Greer, ran off the road at a curve and hit a tree at around 6:30 a.m.

The Duncan Fire Department was recently awarded a $129,000 SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response) grant.

This year, an estimated 46,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States. With a five-year survivor rate of six percent, 39,000 will die from the disease this year.

Greer residents will likely be waiting until spring to see Memorial Drive Extension reopen, South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) officials say.

Part of the road, located near Second Baptist Church, was washed out over a drainage pipe in August, causing two vehicles to crash.
